Re-upholstered?

When I started to dismantle the project, the Recaro seats were thrown out in an early stage as the were very smelly... The interior work was quickly outsorced to my wife, so she started to clean and freshen up the vinyl parts such as the "rear" seats, quarter panels, parcel shelf etc. All these bits and pieces now look as the will be usable and are safely stored in the attic!
She was a bit curious about the Recaro seats as they are upholstered in a black-and-white check, (left on the pic) but through some holes we could see another fabric. When the first seat was dismantled we discovered that beneath the first layer there was another black-and-white check "dogtooth" which was in a fair condition (except from the smell...)
So, it seems that the seats have been re-uphostered in an early stage and the original fabric was kept. We wonder why it was kept, and when it was re-upholstered? As the first layer isn't damaged or worn we wonder if Michael Piech just did not like the original fabric?

Dismantling started

The Porsche is now dismantled bit by bit. Each day I discover more rust than I ever imagined was possible....I also have discovered a strange thing; the car is far more rusty on the left hand side than on the right hand side. I wonder if it has been parked alongside a busy street during wintertime, or maybe parked (long-time) with the left side above a lawn?

Yes, it is the garage-floor you can see below the sill!

Some comforting things though, the car has a nice history (except for the less talented guy that filled the left hand sill with expandable construction foam), the car is complete (except for some metal....) and the car was originally painted in Lemon Yellow, and yes, it will be Lemon Yellow in a couple of years again!

Welcome home party

We have a tradition among our car-friends; when a new object is brought home and coaxed in to the garage, we  throw a party! Drinks and food from the car's country of origin, and everything is served in the garage.
Usually we keep the make and model secret until the object is uncovered in front of everyone. This time, our friends guesses were pretty accurate, German car, classic, Porsche.

We drank Bitburger beer, and barbecued German white sausages. They look a bit odd, but taste good. For the calorie-counting people, we also served freshly grilled asparagus with smoked ham!

Getting started

On his way home, looking very sad.
We went down to Germany on Thursday evening to pick the Porsche up in Bad Segeberg on Friday morning. The loading went swift, and after buying wine in Lübeck, we started the journey back home. After an eight-hour drive we were able to put the Porsche in our garage together with some italian-speaking cars. Wonder what the think about the new one, only speaking german, and it's smelly too....
